November ninth – Thursday, and eleventh – Saturday in Shanghai:

Dennis and I still left at midnight from LA on Asiana Airways – on a fourteen hour flight through Seoul, Korea — Incheon Airport – and on to Shanghai – Pu Dong Airport. With a a few hour layover in Seoul -we very first received a glimpse of the Asian society, and walked the lengthy corridor of the Duty Totally free Shops and stopped in the Wendy Café for latte and tea. When we landed in Shanghai – Mr. Gao Mim met us – with a signal that Ai informed me to see – with big letters saying “Dennis and Joan, Welcome to Shanghai”. Delightful to have Mr. Go – who performs for Kobayashi San – and Lilly, who is Chinese – satisfy us and spirit us absent. Our baggage went by vehicle to the hotel – and Dennis, Lilly and I rode the Maglev from the airport to the west aspect of Shanghai – a train that price 9 billions to develop by the Chinese Federal government and flew to a maximum of 424 Kilometers above the seven moment journey. They explained that it would take forty five minutes by vehicle – with the site visitors in the Town – to cross from the river and achieve our hotel. An Australian sat across from us – and we marveled at the whiz of the practice – and the instantaneous zip of a practice passing in the other path. Off the prepare and into a cab to the resort, the Ramada located in the western aspect, Pu Xi – the outdated element – in between the People’s Square and the Bund – the waterfront at the Huangpu River. The 4 of us loved a late lunch in the cafe, Nan Xinya, on the fourth ground of the resort – with the round serving in the center of the desk loaded with Cantonese flavors – such as a fried fish with a purple sauce – scrumptious. china government scholarship and I napped – and went for a long stroll down the Nanjing Rd – the pedestrian road powering the resort – to the Bund – and loved the array of vibrant lighting down the street and on the waterfront – and the blue boat that sailed across our look at. It was a gorgeous evening – and the lengthy stroll back took us to the People’s Square – when we understood that we might gone also significantly and retraced our methods. We slept like toddlers on the organization mattress with the coverlet – and had been welcomed to China.

November 12th – Sunday in Shanghai:

We woke to a misty sky – and prepared to fulfill Lilly at 9AM – and 1st loved breakfast in the resort. Lilly took us in the morning to City God Temple Bazaar – and the Yu Garden. The Yard was the home of Mr. Pan, developed in 1559, in the Ming Dynasty. Backyard in China consists of the trees, vegetation, rock and buildings – and is the house in which nature is brought in to be experienced in the living. We walked the route and via the Chinese constructions – around the swimming pools – through the gateways – and loved the elegance of the expansion, the several turning paths, the round entry ways – the rocks from the base of the Taihu Lake (one of the five biggest fresh drinking water lakes) with many interesting styles from the erosion of the water – piled high – and at times with a “tower of contentment” in the clouds (on the rocks) and Exquisite Jade Stone. 5 dragon partitions, dragons with three fingers (for regular folks) – a pearl in the dragons mouth – and 1 with a frog in a sympiotic relationship – and tails that ripple the walls leading down the paths. About the corner, we exited the Backyard garden into the numerous retailers – and entered the Silk Manufacturing unit – to see how the silk operate spins itself in silk thread inside its cocoon – and is cooked and put in h2o so that with a brush the women can stir the cocoons and uncover the silk threads. Then six or 8 threads are spun with each other to make the lovely silk thread – and we noticed the bedding and clothes that are traditionally created from the wonderful silks of China. Previously, prior to entering the Yard – we spotted the Nan Xiang Dumpling Cafe with a long line, and Lilly told us about the yummy crab and pork dumplings. Soon after some searching in the office keep – and looking at pearl, jade and valuable stones in jewelry – we tried the dumplings, with a bit of ginger within – and they ended up scrumptious. We returned to purchase a silk blanket and include in the Silk Manufacturing facility – and they even had “California king”. We hurried by taxi to return to the hotel – since Kobayashi San and Gao San had been waiting around for us for some lunch.

The firm van – Fukuoka Knit Company, Kobayashi San’s business – took us across city – views of the streets of the Metropolis, the tall apartment buildings, the theater and place of work structures for this Town of sixteen million folks. We traveled to the Hong District, in close proximity to the Embassies, including the Japanese Embassy. The cafe was Chizhen in Hong Qiao – and we dined in a modest area – and had been astonished by the array of meals on the spherical glass serving piece in the heart of the table – and like the shark fin soup (costly and a delicacy in China). We modified the plans for the afternoon – very good adjust – and from the lodge walked up the Nan Jing to Shu Ya Liang Zi – a classic Chinese massage – on the eighth floor – and all five of us sat in the space each in our very own reclining chair – with scorching h2o at our toes – and then the foot therapeutic massage, deeply baring into our ft – and ear cleansing, a lot to our shock. We had been nicely rested and massaged and returned to the resort, happily – and Dennis and I stopped in Yong An – the department keep – and I liked acquiring “hair toys” to maintain my hair in location – and the female who confirmed me how to do this. Lilly taught us to say “Bu Ya Xie Xie” (no thanks) to all the sellers who have been making an attempt to offer us fakes, watches and purses. And also, Bu Xie (thank you). And “Ni Hao” (Mandarin for Howdy). That night time we dressed and went to the Ritz Carlton to the Acrobat Present and to the Grape’s Yard on Xinle Rd. for evening meal – and experienced our initial taste of the Chinese delicacy of “river crab”. Dennis and I necessary some lessons on how to try to eat this, and that the portion in the center is considered the greatest. It is all fascinating and a rare encounter to be so generously hosted by individuals who know Shanghai and it lifestyle, and an addition to my Rotary GSE experience in Japan with many pals there.
